DAY 04: VISIT TO THE FORTIFIED CITADEL OF KUELAP

Llacta Kuélap is a massive elliptical-shaped construction that rises to 3,030 meters in altitude on a mountain ridge overlooking the upper Utcubamba Valley. The citadel impresses with its extensive high-tiered platforms, temples, and the spatial distribution of the 420 circular dwellings within it. Initially considered a fortress, later research has identified it as a fortified citadel.

DAY 05 VISIT OF LEYMEBAMBA MUSEUM
AND REVASH MAUSOLEUMS

The Leymebamba Museum was built to safeguard and protect more than 200 mummies and the Chachapoya-Inca archaeological collection, including quipus, gourds, and other artifacts recovered from the Mausoleums of Laguna de los Cóndores, which were at risk of being looted. This museum was constructed thanks to international support and the Leymebamba community, using ancestral techniques while incorporating modern technology to ensure the preservation of the artifacts.

The Revash Mausoleums are a series of collective tombs of the Chachapoya elite, built on narrow ledges of a cliff in the shape of small houses, adorned with niches and ochre-colored magical-religious pictograms. To reach the viewpoint of these impressive tombs, a one-hour hike is required from the village of San Bartolo, located at 2,800 masl.
